Asthma was the second leading cause of hospitalizations among children under 18 years of age accounting for 14.8% of hospitalizations among this age group in Berrien County in 2004. However, Berrien County had fewer hospitalizations due to asthma for all age groups as compared to Michigan. 59.2% of hospitalizations due to asthma occurred in females.
