From 1995 to 2005, the number of induced abortions decreased by 38.0% in Berrien County and 17.7% in Michigan. During 2005, there were 277 induced abortions in Berrien County. Of these, 55.2% occurred in females under 25 years of age which was similar to Michigan for this age group (51.3%). In 2005, the abortion rate in Berrien County was slightly less than Michigan for females 15-44 years (10.7 per 1,000 females 15-44 versus 12.1) and teenagers 15-19 years (11.9 per 1,000 females 15-19 versus 12.5).
