Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS)

CSHCS pays for appropriate, specialized medical treatment, equipment and supplies related to the medically eligible diagnosis. The program will also pay for evaluation by an approved specialist to establish a medical diagnosis. Some common eligible conditions include, but are not limited to the following: birth defects, cerebral palsy, certain heart conditions, cancers, diabetes, and persons over 21 with cystic fibrosis or certain coagulation defects (e.g. hemophilia) might be eligible for services.

Services Provided

  • Medical care and treatment assistance related to the medially eligible diagnosis
  • Comprehensive assessment and coordination of services to meet the identified needs of the child and family; for example, hospital in-patient and out-patient clinics, medical equipment and supplies, prescribed medication, tests, and x-rays
  • Referrals are provided as necessary

Additional Information
A family assessment is conducted to enroll the client once medical eligibility is established. Families of all income levels are eligible to enroll as well as those with private insurance. Funding for this program is through Michigan tax dollars, therefore care and treatment should be rendered in Michigan.
